Connecting & Versions

Which Minecraft versions work, how cross-version routing handles you, and what to do if you can't connect.

# versions# troubleshooting

Supported versions

MistyMC accepts connections from Minecraft Java 1.8.x through 1.21.x. We use ViaVersion + ViaBackwards under the hood, so you don’t need to switch profiles.

What “supported” actually means

  • 1.8 — Full support on PvP gamemodes (Soup, Build FFA, Bot Practice). Survival blocks and BedWars textures may render with placeholder fallbacks.
  • 1.9 – 1.16 — Full support on every gamemode.
  • 1.17 – 1.21 — Recommended for the best experience. Full support across all modes including 1.21-only blocks in Survival.

If you’re on a 1.7 client, you can’t connect. We’ve drawn the line at 1.8 so the network can stay modern.

Bedrock and Geyser

We do not run Geyser. MistyMC is Java-only by design. If you’re on a console / mobile, you’ll need a Java account.

Common connection issues

”Failed to verify username”

The server is in online mode — that means you need a paid Java account. Cracked clients won’t connect.

”Connection timed out”

Try these in order:

  1. Make sure the IP is exactly play.mistymc.xyz — no https://, no spaces
  2. Restart your launcher
  3. Flush your DNS cache:
    • Windows: ipconfig /flushdns in Command Prompt
    • macOS: sudo dscacheutil -flushcache
    • Linux: sudo systemd-resolve --flush-caches
  4. Try a different network — sometimes home routers cache stale DNS

”Outdated server”

Your client is newer than the server’s current version. We support up to 1.21.x. If a 1.22 ships, give us a couple of days.

”Outdated client”

Your client is older than 1.8. Update.

Mods and clients

Allowed mods:

  • OptiFine, Sodium, Iris (performance)
  • Replay Mod
  • Litematica (planning only — no auto-build)

Disallowed mods:

  • Anything that auto-clicks, auto-aims, ESPs, x-rays, or blink/macro
  • Macro mods that fight for you
  • Hacked clients (Wurst, Impact, etc.)
